Appalachia has consistently been in a state of crisis. Despite the prevalence of coal, they consistently encountered challenges. They are not individuals who were left behind because they were never on the same page as the rest of the country. With the exception of Andy Bashear, who has a future, they are extremely conservative in their political views. Perhaps circumstances could alter if they elect politicians who want to pursue an alternative path. Globalization and renewable energy have the potential to positively impact a region that is fiscally advantageous. They could soar and thrive with bargain power and new employment in renewable manufacturing and technology. Wokeness, Anti DEI and christian nationalism won't help. With an area that's majority white and christian they are not losing their identity. What they need to do is shape it.
